If they have what it takes to hold it together, why stop them?
Originally by: Tron Flux What's wrong with letting a rich noob come in and break up PL or AAA? (...) If CCP does in fact go the route of pay-to-win, I guess that's just your cookie getting taken away.
What's wrong with that? Consider this analogy: You're a basketball player in a 1-on-1 tournament. You're a good player, you've put lots of time and practice into getting where you are. Somehow, you get matched up with someone who is obviously not as skilled as you are. The match starts and things are going as expected, you've got a good lead on your opponent. But then, midway through the match, your opponent walks up to the referee and hands him a wad of cash. Suddenly, the hoop you are defending is replaced with a much wider one, making it easier for your opponent to score. Your opponent decides it isn't enough, hands the referee another roll of bills and the referee affixes ankle weights to you. You of course have the option to pay just as much as your opponent to level the playing field again, but at that point, why even bother playing basketball? It turns into a game of "whoever's pockets are deepest wins."
Originally by: Tron Flux What are you saying? What's that? You worked hard for your invincible meta-alliances and sovereignty and your total domination of certain sectors of space?! Really?
Yes, really.
Originally by: Tron Flux You committed time and money to the game, and you deserve to have everything stay exactly as is?
No. If somebody else has the power to take it from me, so be it. Believing that you 'deserve' something just because of how much you've committed to it is inherently wrong. However, artificially gaining the means to take it from me is also inherently wrong.
Originally by: Tron Flux I guess the noobs some of you pod on a regular basis for no reason probably think they deserve to keep the stuff they pay for and earn too. Well, it's a tough nuts universe for everyone, and you don't have some special right to hang on to your ancient empires any more than any month-old toon has a right to fly through your patch of 0.0 without dying.
I agree with this section actually.
Originally by: Tron Flux I'm calling hypocrite on all of you older players whinging about changes that threaten your interests and couching your arguments in allegations of money-grubbing, dishonesty, and--most absurdly--"morality."
I would definitely call lying to my face dishonesty, and double-billing players is definitely a money-grubbing and amoral move.
Originally by: Tron Flux The key seems to be the dishonesty, but I don't really read it that way. What I get out of almost everything I've read is that ccp is deliberately trying to disrupt power structures to encourage more pvp, more brutal gameplay in a harsh environment. You seem surprised that they are looking at ways to disrupt things that affect you. Well, too bad.
You don't encourage PvP by offering unfair advantages to the highest bidder.
Originally by: Tron Flux I'm deliberately not addressing the accusations of this being a money grab by CCP so far. That's because I couldn't care less about them trying to make money. That's what businesses do. They make money or they fail. I have absolutely no issue with it at all.
If you want a game universe run by altruistic people who just do it because they love shooting things in space and have no shareholders or investors to appease, I suggest you try an open source alternative to eve. (hint, there aren't any because running a game like this is very expensive.)
In short, quit your griping and let the game evolve, you lousy bunch of self-serving cowards.
This is my main, so feel free to rage-pod me all you want. I don't care that much because, after all, this really is just a game.
~Tron Flux
This just proves how much you don't understand Eve.
